Roosevelt defeats St. Paul Central 51-46 in home opener at The Velt
MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Minneapolis Roosevelt Teddies girls' basketball program made a statement on Tuesday night, as both the JV and varsity squads defeated St. Paul Central in their home opener at The Velt. The varsity team emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle, edging Central 51-46 in front of an energetic home crowd.
The win marks an exciting beginning to what promises to be a season full of growth and potential for a Roosevelt program that is building something special. With the majority of their roster consisting of 7th through 9th graders, the Teddies are laying a foundation that could pay dividends for years to come.
"This is just the start," said one enthusiastic fan after the game. "These young players are getting varsity experience early, and you can see the hunger and determination they're playing with."
The varsity game featured intensity from start to finish, with neither team able to pull away. Roosevelt's balanced attack and defensive effort proved to be the difference-maker down the stretch, as the Teddies maintained composure in the final minutes to secure the five-point victory.

The JV squad also notched a win earlier in the evening, providing a full sweep of Central and setting a positive tone for the entire program. The depth and youth movement throughout both teams suggests that Roosevelt is cultivating a culture of excellence that extends beyond just the varsity starters.
What makes this season particularly exciting for Teddy Nation is the youth on display. With most players still having multiple years of eligibility remaining, the program's trajectory appears to be pointing upward. These early-season experiences against quality competition will serve as invaluable learning opportunities for players who are already contributing at the varsity level despite their young age.
As the season progresses, Roosevelt fans have plenty of reason for optimism. The combination of early success, youthful talent, and the energy surrounding the program creates an atmosphere ripe for growth and achievement.
The Teddies will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season, with the young core gaining confidence and experience with each game.
Let's go Teddies!
